About Us

The driving force for progressive change.

The driving force for change

As conservatives in Congress continue to alienate women, workers, and nearly everyone else with divisive policies – and the support of too many Democrats – it’s never been more important for progressives to stand up and lead.

Progressive Congress is the non-profit foundation building the political power for progressives in Congress that delivers results and unites the movement nationwide.

We provide the staff support and resource infrastructure to engage the American public and create strategic action plans that bring progressive activists, organizations, and Congress together to make change happen on the issues that matter to all Americans.

Communications Strategy

Helping to educate progressives about hot master the media.

The Congressional Messenger Program created a media-ready team of compelling spokespersons in Congress who can now advance progressive aims on immigration - building a cohesive values-based narrative and elevating the voices of underrepresented and vulnerable aspiring citizens.

The Congressional Messenger Program, a cooperative effort coordinated by Progressive Congress, was developed by world-renowned media trainer and expert Joel Silberman; messaging partners Dr. Drew Westen, Celinda Lake, Anat Shenker- Osorio and Ryan Clayton; and issue area specialists and organizations America Votes, National Immigration Forum, Center for American Progress, Voices for America’s Children, Progressive States Network, Zero to Three, Every Child Matters.

Demonstrated Success

Our program continues to increase reach and popularity year after year. We have created enough of a presence on the Hill, that our partners continue to reach out to us for future media briefing bookings and eagerly inquire about our fall/winter briefing calendar. Progressive Congress forged progressive voices inside Congress into media messengers able to go toe-to- toe with Conservatives on TV. Our Congressional Messenger Program has created an institution for media development upon which many offices have come to rely.

Summit

Connecting progressives from across the country.

Each year, Progressive Congress hosts an annual Summit meant to bring together progressive lawmakers and progressive organizers and thought leaders from across the country. The Summit aims to connect these two groups for each to better understand progressive policies and actions in the United States today.

The Summit has been one of our cornerstone events, creating an event that truly connects the progressive game changers for an event that helps to set the tone for the progressive movement for the coming year.

The first Progressive Congress Summit was help in early 2010 and has been held every year since in early February. Over a thousand leaders from the progressive movement have come together during these years to help educate and connect with one another about progressive policy and progressive beliefs in America.

The event is seen as one of quintessential progressive policy events of the year, helping to guide and educate key progressives in America on the issues that matter most.

The Progressive Congress Summit is an off the record, invite-only event.

Policy Issues

ECONOMY

A more progressive economy is one that works for all. Every American who works hard and for a better future for their family and for themselves should be able to achieve prosperity and a good life. These principles help to guide the fight for an economy that works for all, not just for the wealthiest of Americans.

WORKERS' RIGHTS

Central to a more progressive American economy are the principles of the rights of workers. Working in the United States should include the entrenched rights to organize, collectively bargain, and build a stronger and more robust workforce that helps to protect the hardest working Americans, and ensure that an individual is paid a fair wage for fair work.

IMMIGRATION

America is a nation of immigrants. And we believe that diversity built through immigration has helped to create the diverse, beautiful, and strong country we live in today. Our immigration system is long overdue for comprehensive reform to reflect the realities of the 21st century. Progressive Congress seeks to educate progressives on and off the Hill about the progressive values and potential policies regarding CIR.

WOMEN'S AGENDA

The rights of women is a central issue to the founding principles of the United States. Women still, on average, earn less than their male counterparts and are still subject to a number of other inequalities.

America is far overdue regarding the important principles of women's rights in America and ensuring that all individuals are treated equally, regardless of their gender. Progressive Congress seeks to educate individuals both on and off the Hill regarding the continued inequities between the genders and how America could move forward towards a better and more equitable future via progressive principles and policies.

FOREIGN POLICY & NATIONAL SECURITY

Foreign policy, national security, and human rights were one of the founding policy areas of Progressive Congress and continue to be one of our most important issues.

Progressive Congress seeks to educate Congress and the wider United States about a more progressive and enlightened foreign policy. One that focuses on securing our national and working for a more peaceful global community through diplomacy. The security state and pricniples of peace-through-force are antithetical to progressive principles and issues Progressive Congress seeks to educate upon to help secure a brighter and more peaceful global community.
